These are the types of stories that must be shared so that students who want to pursue the trades understand they are not alone, they are not less than, and they can and absolutely will be successful if they apply themselves and master a specialized skill set!

Loren lets back up time and talk about a not so very good student. Let’s talk about a young man who lived up the road on corner from your parents. He struggled with regular school rooms and standard teaching methods. Some of issues were he didnt apply himself to the books. This young man had a talent for mechanical things and a knack for fixing things. They offered him a chance to attend VoTech and study auto mechanics class where he excelled and loved his classes. That turned a light on for me about education and being taught and I can learn anything and took my VoTech education and went to oilfields and now fast foward 40 years I am Senior Drilling Foreman for offshore oil and gas company and will retire soon. Bless your wonderful heart for seeing that some of us dont fit the standard mold

Very good post Loren. This is true in so many students lives. I hope you are given the opportunity to help the ones that are struggling with career decisions. I think in the past there has been a stigma attached to choosing a vocational school instead of university, thinking the student isn’t as intelligent. We all know that is bunk!!
